Welcome to PEN3D2000 the noise model for high productivity

PEN3D2000 (PEN3D) is a stand-alone Environmental Noise Model that radically simplifies the modelling of road traffic noise, moving noise sources and environmental noise in general.

PEN3D is an object-orientated noise model incorporating the CoRTN88 calculation method and an environmental noise model. 

All aspects of PEN3D are retained within the program as objects.  As a consequence the executable is small when it resides on the hard drive.  Once the program is executing it increases in size as each new element is added to the data file.  There are no limits to the size or complexity of the model, except the practical limits of the memory available and the processor speed.

Large models comprising perhaps 100,000 elements or more (ground terrain, noise sources, receptors etc) may be readily developed and retained within the memory of computers having only moderate amounts of RAM. 

PEN3D has been optimised for the 32bit operating system, namely Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows XP and equivalent versions.

The CoRTN88 model is a faithful representation of the L10(18 hour) and L10(1 hour) calculations.  It does not incorporate any correction for Australian conditions. 

The Environmental model is a faithful representation of the Environmental calculation method described in the book by Bies & Hansen “Environmental Noise Control”.  The approach incorporates an incoherent reflection from the ground as recommended by Bies & Hansen as appropriate for calculating noise levels at distances more than 100 m from the source. 

The noise model also includes a railway (moving line source) noise prediction model. The railway model is a mathematically correct calculation of the Leq and the Lmax of a moving line source using the propagation algorithms of the Environmental noise model.  The railway model can also be used to predict the noise level from any type of moving noise source such as individual trucks or motor vehicles.  

After producing and using PEN3D for over 12 years we are convinced that it is the best noise modelling product available today at any price. It is simply a pleasure to use, and we are confident that you will agree as soon as you have tried it out for a while.
